McCutcheon’s Donates Barrels To National Zoo in Washington, DC

In 2007, we were pleased to donate several used cider barrels to the National Zoo in Washington, DC. In 2010, we sent several more. Recently, we were proud to once again donate barrels to the Zoo’s animal enrichment program. These barrels were distributed across multiple animal units. The elephants, lions, bears, and cows all received new barrels and we are pleased to report that they were a huge hit!

The zookeeper staff utilize the barrels in different ways depending on the animal. The elephant keepers made a durable feeder which has some holes drilled into it and is secured to the fence line. The lions received the barrel simply as is, and it elicited some of their natural instincts! The bears and cows have also enjoyed rolling or knocking the barrels around their yards.

We hope you enjoy these photos as much as the animals enjoyed their barrels!
